Madeleine and family backpacking around the globe

Mulu National Park (Part 2)

Welcome Back!

When we were in Mulu we went to multiple caves – Clearwater, Lang, Deer, and Wind Cave! We saw staligmites and stalactites, and 3 million bats!

Do you know how to tell the difference between stalagmites and stalactites? Well you’re about to! Stalagmites has a g in it, for ground, and that’s where they grow out of! And stalactites has a c in it, and ceiling starts with a c, so that’s how you tell the difference!

All of the caves had something unique about them! Some had bats, some had staligmites, and some had amazing stories about them. I just wanted to say that our tour guide was just amazing, he had interesting and funny stories, and he told us about some really courageous things he has done!

The cave with bats was very cool, but they creeped me out a little. The other problem was that the bats came out when the sun went down, but that took a while! A loooooooong time! And we were very happy with what we saw, although, they kind of hid behind the cave while they were flying, it was still amazing though!

Once you’d finished that, you got to walk back on the trail, but it was dark, so I  wasn’t that thrilled, and the noises didn’t help! But It was nice because there were little lights on the trail.

And finally, the day after that! We went on a boat trip  to two of the caves, clearwater and wind cave. There were 1000 steps in the clearwater cave! Luckily, we got to go and take a dip in the river after, and it really was clearwater!

On that boat trip, we got to go to the market. There, they sold different items that they had made. I got a bead type of keychain, and William got to try a blowgun out! He was so excited, and had a pretty good aim.

Lastly, It was very interesting to see people who lived on the river, they washed themselves in the river and they wore very different clothes than most of us. They didn’t look sad or anything, and the two kids smiled and waved to our boat!

Just a picture of the river

I hope you enjoyed this, and I appreciate you reading this!

Miss you all, Love yall!                                                    Madeleine!
