Tween Travels

Madeleine and family backpacking around the globe

Leaving Malaysia

Oh my goodness! We have done so much travelling. We have gone to so many places, including Ipoh, a resort on the coast, Muar, and SINGAPORE!

Okay, we better get started. So after we left the highlands, we took a bus a few hours to Ipoh. When we first arrived in the afternoon, we went for coffee because Ipoh is known for white coffee – it’s basically more sugar and milk in the coffee. But we only got one cham (tea + coffee) and one coffee because that’s all they had left. Thankfully, my lovely parents gave William and me the coffees and they got stuck with tea.

We wanted to make the most of the day and explored the Old Town. It had beautiful old and new buildings. But the best part was a faboo bookshop in an old bank vault. I was so delighted to be there after the highlands.

The next day, we went white water rafting for the first time. I was very nervous when our guide told us to get in the water and float down the river with the current. On that trip we saw monkeys, got served a feast, and had lots of laughs!

Later that night, we thought we might have eaten something rotten, mainly because we all felt a bit poorly. (sigh…) I’m going to regret telling you this, but we got take out that night – Dominos.

The next day we felt much better. We went to Old Town White Coffee which is a famous coffee shop, and got a bus to a resort in Damai Laut.

We went to the resort because we wanted a little relax time and it really helped. We went on a sweaty bike ride and saw a bunch of monkeys including on our balcony!

Anyways, this was now our last week in Malaysia. We headed to Muar, a town known for furniture and good food. We enjoyed elephant coffee, otak otak, and we had a laundry incident!

My mom and I went to a self service laundry place. We put basically all of our clothes in the washing machine except what we were wearing, and then the machine wouldn’t open. We tried everything, and it was stuck on this.

We tried calling the number and it didn’t work. We finally Whatsapped a number, and they told us that they would call a technician. So we went back to our hotel, and my dad only had a pair of pants and a raincoat to wear. We had to buy him a new shirt so he could leave the hotel. Happy ending – later we checked on our laundry and it was fixed!

Okay, time for Singapore! Of course we got a bus there and in total that day, we had 4 buses and an Uber! Singapore is a spectacular clean and sophisticated city which was very fun to explore! Amazing food, sights, of course a museum and … a fabulous light show with lit up gigantic metal trees!

We have loved our time in Malaysia and Singapore, and I can’t wait to write about Dubai! Miss yall very much!

  3. Madeleine, you are getting so tall! I would love to hear more about Singapore and see more photos if you have them. It’s a place I’ve never been to, but would love to visit.

It’s supposedly spring here, but I’m still wearing jackets and sweatshirts . I’m ready for some warmer weather. The Hometown Fair is this next weekend. I selling ducks for the Rotary Club. You have to name your duck. Elizabeth named hers Dill Pickle. Mine is Bean and Brooke’s is Princess Leia. I hope we win something.

Brooke and I are going to watch the Dodgers play the Atlanta Braves next Friday at Dodger stadium. I’m excited about the game, not excited about the traffic.

Elizabeth had a Lacrosse game today. Her team got slaughtered. The other team looked like high school girls. Even when they lose Elizabeth likes to play.

All the news for now. Keep those words coming. I really like reading about your trip!

Well back to your trip it looks amazing and man that weather sounds so nice. It’s slowly getting nicer here but still breezy. How much longer on your trip? I miss you so much, all of the girls do. Finn’s t shirt design won for the middle school picnic. Can’t wait to see you at middle school. Well keep having fun on your trip.
