Way Too Big Narrow Boat Trip

Hey everyone, I’m back! It’s been a while and I have a lot to say. Today’s post is all about the narrow boat we rented, next post will be about the rest of our time in England!

It was a beautiful day and we were sitting outside our boat in some deck chairs. We were feeding the ducks, and laughing. “That sounds lovely and relaxing,” you may be thinking. Yes, eventually by day 3 it was. But let me tell you, it was definitely not all like this.

It all started when we first got the boat from the company. It was 6 feet wide and 65 feet long. A man working there showed us around and took us to get going. We got stuck in the side of the canal in the first five minutes but the man eventually pushed us out and said that he had never gotten stuck like that. (Great start, right?)

On that first night we were looking for places to park, but we just kept driving because we couldn’t find a spot big enough for our giant boat. When we finally arrived in the rain my mom said, “This is officially miserable.” It could have been even worse – apparently we were feet away from crossing an aqueduct and going through a giant tunnel, and it was already 7:45pm. (Again, great start, right?)

The next day we crossed over the highest aqueduct in England. It started well until we got to the turnaround to get onto the next canal. All I’m going to say is that someone took out their phone and started filming us – that’s how bad we were. Oh, and my mom may have crashed into a few boats.

Lastly, the canal width. I’m just wondering why someone would make a canal so tight that our one boat could barely fit on it! Well, I think they were a mean person who wanted to ruin people’s marriages. Anyways, that was a nightmare.

One of the bridges

The last two days coming back were much easier to handle and we enjoyed those a lot. At least we had a lot of laughs and giggles and the boat was very cozy inside.

If you have any questions please ask in the comments. Until next time!

Miss you all, XOXO, Madeleine

P. S. Here is a tour of our boat

That is a very,, very very long boat. Much longer that the one on which I took a short ride in2016. Quite adventurous of you all. It sounds like you all will be ready to do it again perfectly. Love hearing from you. June

We are a family of 4, my parents met traveling and later had kids and decided that they would take us traveling around the world too! And that’s how it all started!
