Last week we went to a town called Valparaiso in Chile which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. You may have heard of it, maybe not. But the most important thing is DO NOT GO THERE. Everyone says, “Ooh, it’s amazing.” It is not. It is terrible.

The town is famous for street art with amazing murals everywhere. But if you own a house and someone asks if they can paint a mural on the front of it, unless you say, “Yes please,” they will tag your house with ugly graffiti as a punishment.

It is very hilly and there are supposed to be 16 funiculars to take you up and down the hills. But less than half are working and one has broken twice which hurt people who were traveling on it.

There was trash everywhere including broken bottles and we saw rats and dead pigeons. We also saw groups of scary looking men hanging around. They didn’t do anything but we didn’t feel very safe.

And don’t get me started on the dog poop. There were lots of stray dogs, or “community dogs,” who were mostly friendly but some were limping or looked sick. These dogs created a mountain of poop. It was EVERYWHERE. I didn’t wear my flipflops once.

And that is why Valparaiso gets a one star review.
