Colombia: The Closing Chapter

What do you do after 6 months of travelling? Vacation! Welcome to Colombia…

After our last bus ride in Ecuador we were very excited for no more bus journeys! We decided to spend 9 days in and around Cartagena. We started with 2 nights in the old town, 4 nights on an island nearby, and finally 3 nights in a nice hotel, using the last of John’s points.

Cartagena is a lively city, full of buzzing people night and day. We arrived to our hostal, located on a side street, at around midnight. We quickly realized that we didn’t have any bottled water, which was a problem because you can’t drink the tap water in South America. So we looked for a nearby corner store.  Imagine our suprise when the streets looked like this:

Everyone in Cartagena was gorgeous with faboo style. The old buildings were incredible and the street art was amazing.

As we were walking through a random park, there was a guy selling snacks seemed to be pointing to something. We went over to look and he said that there was a baby sloth. He also took us around the corner to feed monkeys! I guess we didn’t have to go to the jungle!

Our parents wanted to take us diving, so it was time for an island. We got a 1 hour boat ride over there, and got welcomed by dancers and beautifully clear water.

Our room was decent but on the 2nd night there was a leak in mine and William’s room. It leaked on our backpacks, clothes, and William’s head. The next day we got moved, and the rest of the stay was lovely.

I was so nervous about diving, but we did the bubble maker course so we could practice in the pool before getting into the ocean. We saw a bunch of small fish and colorful coral. In the end, I thought it was so fun but it would probably be better to try again when we are older.

Our time went by pretty quickly and then we were off to the Hilton. Before you roll your eyes, you know that we have stayed at our fair share of hostels and hostals. So we were very excited. We spent our time by the pool and some time in the city.

We’re back tomorrow – see you soon! My final post will be my overall thoughts of our trip, so keep an eye out for that.

We are a family of 4, my parents met traveling and later had kids and decided that they would take us traveling around the world too! And that’s how it all started!
